Hi, I'm Cherie, a self-taught artist and maker based in Byron Bay. Formerly an Exercise Physiologist of 13 years, my identity was heavily grounded in my profession. Its a career I’m proud of and had focused on since graduating high school; completing a Bachelor degree, followed by my post-graduate Masters, eventually becoming self-employed, built a business and even became an employer.
It’s fair to say as a Exercise Physiologist, business owner and operator, employer, a wife and a new mother to my baby boy, I found I was pulled in too many directions and something had to give before I did. So in a bid to put myself first and become more present as a mother and wife I stepped away from my profession and sold my clinic in 2023.
I found myself immersed in motherhood in a time the world was navigating COVID; border closures meant learning to become a parent without the support of my own. Long dreamy days of soaking in my baby boy at home during lockdown came at a time I was also grieving who I once was. The overwhelming feeling of unease came from not understanding who I had become and for the first time in my life I lacked direction of who I could become.
It was during this time I gave myself the permission to explore my creative side I’d long ignored and had never fully nurtured. I rediscovered embroidery, a skill I learnt from my aunt when I was 12, I hadn't stitched anything for almost 25 years but it kick started my creativity. I explored drawing, which quickly progressed into textured art, and eventually led me to discover acrylic resin, a non-toxic, Australian-made medium that felt like home in my hands.
What started as a personal journey to reconnect with myself has evolved into a passion-driven business. Creating handmade homewares allows me to fully embrace the principles of slow living. Each piece is made with intention and care, giving me the space to be present and mindful throughout the process. This slower, more thoughtful approach not only nurtures my creativity but also brings a sense of purpose to my work and my life.
I believe handmade pieces carry a unique energy that reflects the time, skill, and soul poured into them. For me, it’s about crafting with meaning and offering pieces that invite warmth, individuality, and conscious living into everyday spaces.
